Subject: Boll Weevil Reinfestation

On September 3, 2002, two boll weevils were captured in Wayne County. The field(s) in question have been treated and the area is being intensively trapped.

Although we consider Georgia to be "boll weevil free", we have never completed a calendar year with zero boll weevil captures. For this reason, the current monitoring program will be ongoing until the threat of reinfestation is near zero.

It is in our interest that we make every attempt to minimize boll weevil reinfestation. One way of doing so is to be sure our equipment, such as pickers and module trucks, which has been in weevil infested areas are boll weevil free prior to entering Georgia.

Attached is a letter I received from Mr. Larry Brashear, APHIS SEBWEPD, with additional information.
